Minister in Residence Announced

Ray Brown assumed Minister-In-Residence responsibilities at Presbyterian Village in Little Rock on August 1, 2011.  Prior to coming to Presbyterian Village he ministered for over twenty years in Disciples of Christ congregations in Michigan, Louisiana and Arkansas.  In May of 2011 he was ordained as a deacon in the Arkansas diocese of the Episcopal Church and was assigned by his bishop to the newly named St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church in Maumelle where he will be serving as pastor/developer.  In December of 2011 he will be ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church.  Ray is a graduate of Pacific Christian College in Fullerton, California and Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He is married to Royce and has two adult sons, one grandson and one granddaughter.  Ray would be happy to visit with you anytime about how we can work with your church staff or parishioners.

Board Member Authors Study

Board member Dr. Holly Felix was lead author on a study reported in the July systems innovation themed issue of Health Affairs, a national peer-reviewed journal on health, health care, and health policy.  The study, Medicaid Savings Resulted When Community Health Workers Matched Those With Needs To Home And Community Care, showed that community health workers were effective in identifying and linking community-dwelling Medicaid beneficaries with disabilities to home and communtiy-based services to address their unmet long-term care needs, thereby reducing risk for avoidable institutionalization and generating a net three-year savings to the Arkansas Medicaid program of $2.619 million.  Health Affairs hosted a press briefing on this themed issue on July 7, 2011 at the National Press Club in Washington DC. Shown here is Dr. Felix and Susan Dentzer, Health Affairs editor-in-chief, during the press briefing.

By Your Side

Presbyterian Village is proud to have started a volunteer based program in February 2010 called “ByYour Side”.  This program was designed to insure that all residents sent to the emergency room or a routine doctor appointment will have an advocate at their side.  The advocate serves as comfort, support and as a communicator for the resident and where needed, for the spouse or family member.  Volunteer duties include engaging the resident while waiting to see the doctor, assisting the resident to rooms in different parts of the hospital, helping the resident change into a gown, and keeping the immediate family informed.  This program also includes helping with general errands.  If you would like to volunteer, but don’t have specific hours to donate on a regular basis, this opportunity is for you.  We need caring, compassionate and supportive people to make this ambitious program a success.  The residents of Presbyterian Village are the winners when we all come together for this one purpose.  For more information contact Marcia Watkins at marciawatkins@presbyvillage.com
