Kirchner Architecture Aids Presbyterian Village

Thanks to architect Larry Kirchner, work is currently underway to give the Health Care Center, Presbyterian Village’s 24-hour nursing care facility, a much needed face lift.

Larry and his assistant, Kathryn Knox, contributed approximately 320 man hours towards mapping out a cosmetic upgrade for the Health Care Center. Kirchner and Associates made several recommendations for improving the facility, including painting walls, refinishing the nurses stations, installing new floor tile and replacing old bathroom tile, improving the lighting throughout the building, and upgrading elevator cabs.

“I wanted Presbyterian Village to look inviting and serve as a living space where the residents feel comfortable,” said Kathryn. “This is their home, so I didn’t want it to have a hospital-like atmosphere. I leaned towards colors found in nature that are relaxing, warm and soothing. I didn’t want the colors to be so intense that it became intrusive”. Kathryn Knox earned a BA in Interior Design from Mississippi College in 2004.

Larry Kirchner, a native Arkansan and a graduate of the University of Arkansas, formed his own company over 10 years ago. Asked why he donated so many man-hours to the project, he replied, “I enjoy being able to use my expertise to help people. Everything doesn’t have to be done for money. I learned about Presbyterian Village through my association with Second Presbyterian Church, and I know it is a good organization. I wanted to help the Village get even better”.

A community-wide campaign, known as the Beautification Project Campaign, is being held to raise money for the Health Care Center cosmetic upgrade. Anyone interested in supporting this effort may contact Lisa Nazzaro at the Presbyterian Village Foundation Office, 225 – 1615 x 28.

Frank Broyles Speaker at Beautification Campaign Kickoff Luncheon

Over one hundred Presbyterian Village supporters gathered for lunch at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock on September 27th to kickoff the Beautification Project Campaign. The campaign was conceived and developed by the Presbyterian Village Foundation to raise financial support for a much-needed refurbishment of the Village’s Health Care Center.

Beautification Project Campaign Chairman Sandra Tranum organized the luncheon and recruited Coach Broyles to serve as the guest speaker. “I appreciate the good turnout we had, and I think everyone enjoyed Coach Broyles’ heartfelt presentation.”

Coach Broyles spoke on caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. His inspiration was his wife and best friend of 59 years, Barbara Broyles, who passed away in October 2004 after battling this disease that has no survivors.

Kevin Crass, President of the Presbyterian Village Board of Directors, served as event’s emcee. At the conclusion of the luncheon, Deen Lincoln, Chairman of the Presbyterian Village Foundation Board of Directors, presented Coach Broyles with a limited edition print of the Village created by local artist Allan Gates.

“I thank the many people who have given so generously to support the Beautification Project to date, said Sandra. “I hope those who have not yet made a contribution will remember us in their year-end giving or else think to put us in their budget for a charitable gift next year.”
