History
Presbyterian Village was born out
of one man’s concern for the lack of retirement
living in Arkansas. Sam Clippard was the visionary
behind Presbyterian Village’s birth. Mr. Clippard
presented his ideas to laymen and pastors of the
Presbyterian churches in Little Rock and North
Little Rock. In 1961 a 21-member board was formed
that led to a June 1964 announcement that nine
Southern Presbyterian Churches in the area would
sponsor construction of Presbyterian Village in
response to what was felt to be the churches
responsibility to provide for the needs of the
elderly.
Sam Clippard owned acreage on the
corner of Rodney Parham and in 1963 he donated 5 ˝
acres for Presbyterian Village to be built on and as
an architect he began to design the buildings.
Members of the nine Presbyterian churches pledged
$36,000 to furnish and equip the buildings and to
create an operating fund. After several years of
research, traveling the country, and many meetings,
in 1965 the Lodge and apartments were the first
buildings to open.
In 1970, over $150,000 was raised
for the new health care center. The 78-bed facility
was opened in 1972. Today the Village offers skilled
nursing care as well as residential care. You will
find independent living in the Lodge and one and two
bedroom cottages.
Presbyterian Village is owned and
operated by a nonprofit organization, Presbyterian
Village, Inc., and is sponsored by eleven
Presbyterian churches of the greater Little Rock
metropolitan area. We are proud to have provided 45
years of housing and services to the community.
